Proceedings pro084-2 : Proceedings of the Seventh International Conference on Concrete under Severe Conditions - Environment and Loading
Concrete is the most widely used material in the world. Approximately 60 billion cubic meters were consumed in 2012 alone. The durability and serviceability of concrete are critical in helping improve people’s safety and comfort. The importance of these concepts become especially evident under severe environmental or loading conditions. The international conference series, “Concrete under severe conditions-environment and loadings CONSEC” is a unique event specially focused on the durability and service performance of concrete structures that are subjected to severe environment and/or severe loading conditions. CONSEC conferences have been held six times since 1995, in Sapporo (Japan, 1995), Tromsø (Norway, 1998), Vancouver (Canada, 2001), Seoul (Korea, 2004), Tours (France, 2007), and Yucatán (México, 2010). Following these highly successful events, the 7th CONSEC conference, named CONSEC13, will be held in Nanjing, China, from September 23 to 25, 2013.
The CONSEC13 proceedings contain over 170 high quality peer-reviewed scientific and practitioners’ papers from a variety of topics in concrete research. They provide cutting edge knowledge in 14 themes: Hydration and microstructure of cement-based materials; Physical properties of cement-based systems; Transport properties of cement-based materials; Dimensional stability in concrete; Performance of concrete under marine environment; Performance of concrete under other severe environment; Performance of concrete under severe loading; Performance of concrete under severe environment and loading; Simulation of structure and properties of cement-based materials; Field Performance of concrete; New design concept and methods for long term performance; Service life prediction; Special approaches for concrete structures under uniquely severe condition; Other materials and systems.
The following six distinguished professors will give keynote lectures covering six important areas of the conference:
Prof. Makoto Hisada (Tohoku University);
Prof. György L. Balázs (Budapest University of Technology and Economics);
Prof. Changwen Miao (Southeast University);
Prof. Surendra P. Shah (Northwestern University);
Prof. Wei Sun (Southeast University);
Prof. Byung Hwan Oh (Seoul National University)
In addition, there will be a special plenary session to honor Prof. Koji Sakai, the founder of CONSEC, and Prof. Wei Sun, the Chair of the Advisory Committee to CONSEC13. Finally, we would like to give our sincere thanks to the members of scientific committee for their effort in reviewing and finalizing papers for the proceedings, to the organizing committee for their hard work in putting things in order and preparing details to make the conference a success, and to the Jiangsu Research Institute of Building Science and Jiangsu Bote New Materials Co.
